Ward Village is getting into the Christmas spirit as its popular outdoor ice skating rink opened Friday.
This is the second year it’s been installed on the ground level of the historic IBM building.
So how does the ice stay frozen in this warm Hawaiian weather?
“We got six miles of piping underneath the ice,” said spokeswoman Kellyn Koepplinger. “It’s basically a refrigerated floor that is kept cold with a coolant pumping through it.”
It’ll cost you $16 dollars to skate for an hour-and-a-half, and that includes tax and skate rental fees.
The skating rink will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Monday, Jan. 16.
