Many families did a different kind of shopping this day after Thanksgiving besides your typical Black Friday — that is, shopping for Christmas trees.
Tree seller Richard Tajiri said Noble Firs are still popular this year, along with Nordman Firs, which he says holds up very well in Hawaii, but doesn’t have that strong Christmas-tree smell.
Colored trees are also in this year. “Because of the movie ‘Frozen,’ we did a bunch of them last year, and this year we’re doing it again. People are buying trees colored a light blue to get the ‘Frozen’ look.”
You can find Tajiri’s tree lots in two locations: The former Varsity Theater parking lot at the corner of University Avenue and Coyne Street, and the other in the covered parking lot at Pearlridge Center next to Toys R Us.
Both locations are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
