Man arrested for suspected involvement in Kahului hit-and-run

A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Kahului Friday night.

On Monday, Maui police arrested James Shishido, 87, of Kula in connection with the death of Destiny Delima, 30, of Kahului.

Shishido was released pending further investigation. A white 1998 Ford Explorer was recovered from his residence. Preliminary investigation identified the vehicle which sustained front end damage.

On Friday, Nov. 25, at approximately 7:54 p.m., a crash occurred at Pulehu Road south of Hookele Street in Kahului. A vehicle traveling on Pulehu Road collided into Delima, who was walking near the east shoulder of the roadway.

The vehicle involved fled the area. Delima sustained fatal injuries and was found dead at the scene.

This is Maui County’s 22nd traffic fatality for 2016, as compared to 21 the same time last year.
