Officials are still trying to determine what caused a plane carrying a Brazilian soccer team to go down in Colombia Monday night.
At least 71 people who were aboard the charter flight have been confirmed dead, but miraculously six people survived the disaster.
The plane’s black boxes have been recovered, and investigators hope they will shed light on what went wrong.
What happened in Colombia brings back memories of a devastating plane crash here in Hawaii nearly 30 years ago.
On Oct. 28, 1989, members and staff from Molokai High School’s girls volleyball team were returning from a tournament on Maui when their plane crashed in the Halawa mountains of Molokai.
All 20 on board were killed, including eight students and two staff members.
Investigators later determined the crash was the result of pilot error.
It’s one of the worst aviation disasters in Hawaii history.
