EDITOR’S NOTE: Michael Brown has been arrested and this post has been updated.
Honolulu police and CrimeStoppers have arrested a man in connection with two moped thefts in Waikiki.
Michael Brown was arrested just before 8 a.m. Dec. 5 on Kalakaua Avenue on two $20,000 warrants for not following the terms of HOPE probation.
“On August 18, 2014, at about 2:40 p.m., the complainant parked her moped in the rear parking lot of Moose McGillycuddy’s on Lewers Street, went back to her moped an hour later and found it had been taken,” said CrimeStoppers Sgt. Kim Buffett. “Again surveillance video was reviewed and officers were able to identify Brown. He was located and arrested for theft in the second degree and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.”
He was also arrested in April 2014, also for stealing a moped from Waikiki.
“He has seven prior convictions and is known to frequent the Kaneohe and Honolulu areas,” Buffett added.
