Hokulea’s Miami arrival marks end of 9-month journey up and down U.S. east coast

Hawaii’s voyaging canoe Hokulea has arrived in Miami, Florida, and with that, ends her nine-month journey up and down the east coast.

Hokulea and crew arrived at Shake-A-Leg Marina Saturday afternoon, and it’s home to Shake A Leg Miami, a non-profit that provides environmental lessons, therapeutic sailing and water sports for children and adults with physical, developmental and economic challenges.

The crew will be spending some time with them and the public, as they help to grow the global movement of malama honua, caring for earth.

They’ll also be preparing the canoe for her next leg into the Carribean before the Panama Canal with departure expected in about three weeks.
