Keiki Talk: How to avoid overeating during the holidays

In today’s Keiki Talk we chat with psychologist Dr Suzanne Gelb about children and the family. Today’s talk topic: How families can avoid holiday overeating.

Dr. Gelb says parents need to role-model healthy eating habits and limit bringing tempting foods into the house. Teaching kids that saying “No” to a second slice of cake doesn’t mean “no fun allowed.”

More tips:

  • Prepare healthy, nourishing foods, so kids feel full
  • Prepare lighter meals on days when kids will have treats (e.g., at a holiday party)
  • Avoid snacking
