A 43-year-old Hawaii Kai man has died following a single-car crash early Monday morning.
It happened just after 5 a.m. on Kapiolani Boulevard, near Market City Shopping Center.
According to police, the driver was heading east-bound on King Street, made a left turn onto Kapiolani Boulevard, lost control, and hit a concrete pillar.
He was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.
Police say speed was not a factor in the crash. According to Emergency Medical Services, the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role.
Some lanes that run beneath the H-1 Freeway were closed as police investigated and cleared the scene.
This is the 22nd traffic fatality as opposed to 27 traffic fatalities at the same time last year.
