McKinley’s Buchanan makes history as first female quarterback

Alexandria Buchanan

“You play ball like a girl…”

That was a phrase that used to be an insult, but was certainly turned into a compliment tonight.

History was made as McKinley’s Alexandria Buchanan became what is believed to be the first ever female to start at quarterback in a Hawaii varsity football game.

Buchanan has quite the cannon. The sophomore played well in junior varsity as the Tiger’s quarterback last year.

She was not phased by the moment on the varsity squad against Kalaheo.

In the first half, Buchanan hits Ace Asis from 16 yards. History.

Our friends at Hawaii Prep World confirm that the touchdown pass was the first ever in a Hawaii varsity game by a female.

Then on the two point conversion, Julio Atonio gets the hookup from Buchanan out of the backfield to tie it.

Kalaheo would hold on to take this one in the 2nd half. The game ended 27 – 26.

The McKinley Tigers will take on Kalani next Saturday.
