Emergency officials report runaway siren on Hawaii island

If you heard a siren go off on Hawaii island Tuesday evening, don’t worry. There is no emergency.

The County of Hawaii’s Civil Defense says a siren malfunctioned and continued to sound despite efforts to cancel it.

Firefighters had to physically disable it to keep it from going off.

Officials say the siren belongs to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.

State crews will inspect it on Wednesday.
