A Maui man is dead after crashing his truck in Wailuku.
It happened on Thursday, Nov. 2, at around 3:23 a.m., on Waiehu Beach Road west of Kealii Drive.
Police say a gray 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling east on Waiehu Beach Road when it veered off the roadway and onto the makai shoulder, and hit a metal light pole.
Police say the truck then continued on the shoulder across Kealii Drive, where it hit a rock wall.
The driver was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.
He was identified as John V. Anken, 34.
The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
This is Maui County’s 14th traffic fatality for 2017 as compared to 19 the same time last year.
