Kristine Uyeno got hooked on journalism as a student at Waipahu High School, writing for the school newspaper. “I loved meeting and talking to new people and hearing their stories. I still do!” she said.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa graduate worked as an anchor and reporter in Bozeman, Mont., Seattle and Las Vegas before returning to Honolulu.
Uyeno says one of her most memorable experiences was interviewing a former Schofield soldier who had lost both arms and both legs in a bombing in Iraq and was about to receive a double-arm transplant. “He served as an inspiration to everyone, including myself,” she said.
When she’s not in the newsroom, Uyeno loves being surrounded by friends and family, “and, of course, eating!”
