Anchor, Wake Up 2Day
Kristine Uyeno got hooked on journalism as a student at Waipahu High School, writing for the school newspaper. “I loved meeting and talking to new people and hearing their stories. I still do!” she says.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa graduate worked as an anchor and reporter in Bozeman, Mont., Seattle and Las Vegas before returning to Honolulu.
Kristine says one of her most memorable experiences was interviewing a former Schofield soldier who had lost both arms and both legs in a bombing in Iraq and was about to receive a double-arm transplant. “He served as an inspiration to everyone, including myself,” she says.
After reporting for four years at KHON2, Kristine joined the Wake Up 2day team as an anchor in July 2016.
“It’s not easy waking up at 1:30 a.m., but I laugh really hard every morning with my co-workers,” she says. “Then, when I’m done with my shift, I get the whole day to spend doing things I couldn’t do before, like hiking and going to my son’s volleyball games.”
When she’s not in the newsroom, Kristine loves being surrounded by friends and family, “and, of course, eating!”
