Rob DeMello has a life-long love of local sports and enjoys “being able to relay the accomplishments of the teams and athletes that represent our state,” he said.
The Kailua High School graduate got his first internship at the age of 15 working under current ESPN SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett. He’s been hooked ever since.
Some of his highlights on the job include producing and hosting the half-hour special, “NFL Hawaii: Past, Present and Future,” in 2014, and creating “Cover 2: Hawaii High School Football Weekly,” a show that airs every Thursday at 9 p.m. during football season with Sam Spangler, Brian Te’o and Kanoa Leahey. Its second season premieres this fall.
In addition to his role at KHON2, DeMello is also the executive producer of “Leahey and Leahey” on PBS Hawaii. He previously co-hosted and executive produced the sports radio show “Rob and Russ” on AM 1500.
But, DeMello says, sports can’t top his first two loves – daughter Emi and son Cole.
