Alexander Zannes comes to KHON2 after working as a sports anchor and reporter in both Albuquerque, N.M., and Wichita Falls, Texas.
He graduated from the University of New Mexico, where he helped launch the university’s first student-run broadcast news station.
Growing up, Alexander was inspired to pursue broadcast journalism by his father, an Emmy-winning documentary film maker and freelance photographer, and often helped behind-the-scenes.
Alexander says he’s been dreaming about moving to Hawaii since visiting his close high school friend, KHON2’s own Sam Spangler. “I love the outdoors and jumped at the chance to live here,” he says.
If he wasn’t in broadcast journalism, Alexander would probably be a professional golfer. He attended UNM on a presidential academic scholarship and received All Mountain West Conference honors while on the golf team.
In addition to exploring Hawaii’s courses, Alexander says he’s eager to experience everything Hawaii has to offer. “I’m an avid hiker and rock climber, so if you see me out in the mountains, be sure to say, ‘Aloha!’”
